The design brief for Plymouth University research group C.A.M.E.R.A.
included the opportunity to create a graphic banner that would brand the
group’s internet presence within a specific set of design parameters
stipulated by the University’s own brand. Heading the design team, we
ultimately created a set of web and print graphics, including a
print-ready version to use as a logo that met the group’s interest in
‘focussing, developing, and looking through new lenses’ in medical
educational research and assessment.

Small Things: Poetry from The Prom

This is definitely a project that falls under “things I like". Angie Butler (West Country Giants) asked me if I would design a set of bookmarks featuring the poetry of local children. The poetry is a fulcrum point of several local events and issues pertaining to Penzance Promenade as seen through the eyes of children.

I’ve edited and laid out full length manuscripts, designed a book cover or two, but there was something very precious about applying those same skills to the clear-eyed and emotionally rich and honest work of these very talented children: both the poetry and the photography!

Penzance Literary Festival 2011

Reading is for Everyone!”

The Brief: In its second year, the Penzance Literary Festival wanted to preserve it’s foundation philosophy, a literary festival for everyone, and have a broader reach. The theme for 2011 was developed around “reading is for everywhere". Based on the concept, a poster series was designed and produced using local residents reading in unusual locations.

‘Susan’s photographs [and design] for the Penzance Literary Festival 2011 were very striking: beautifully composed, real collectors’ pieces. She also designed the Festival logo: this was very much a collective endeavour, and it was a real pleasure to find a designer who listened to us and responded to our ideas and suggestions.’ -Peter Levin, Chairman Penzance Literary Festival

A Few Words on ... FLASH

I write –on average- two thousand words a week. As the creator and site moderator for a top-ranked MySpace Photography forum (now in stealth mode as MySpace went … well … tits up) thousands of words are churned each week: posts explaining photographic concepts and processing techniques, moderating a weekly photographic event; Combining technical, conceptual language with LOLspeak (and grateful for it).
